Anxiety Counselling

When your mind won't switch off and everything feels too much...

Living with anxiety can be exhausting. Your mind races from one worry to the next, you replay conversations, imagine the worst or feel constantly on edge. Even when you know your thoughts aren't helping, it can feel impossible to switch them off.

Perhaps you're lying awake at night searching for answers, wondering why you feel like this or hoping tomorrow will somehow feel different. Anxiety isn't simply overthinking, and it isn't a sign of weakness. It can affect every part of your life, leaving you mentally and physically drained while making even everyday situations feel overwhelming.

I offer online and telephone anxiety counselling to adults across the UK. Together, we'll take the time to understand what's driving your anxiety, make sense of the thoughts and feelings that have been keeping you stuck, and help life begin to feel less overwhelming. You don't have to manage this on your own.

What Is Anxiety?

Anxiety is something we all experience from time to time. It's our mind and body's natural response to feeling under threat, helping to keep us alert and protect us when we need it.

The difficulty comes when that sense of threat doesn't switch off. Your mind may constantly search for what could go wrong, your body may feel tense or on edge, and even everyday situations can begin to feel overwhelming. Over time, anxiety can leave you feeling exhausted, affecting your sleep, your relationships, your confidence and your ability to enjoy life.

For some people, anxiety develops after a bereavement, a significant life event or a period of prolonged stress. For others, it seems to appear without any obvious explanation.

Whatever has brought you here, anxiety doesn't have to define your life. Together, we can take the time to understand what's happening and make sense of why anxiety has become such a powerful part of your everyday experience.

How Anxiety Can Show Up

Anxiety doesn't look the same for everyone. You may recognise some of these experiences, while others may not fit at all. That's completely normal.

  • Racing thoughts that seem impossible to switch off
  • Constant worrying or imagining the worst
  • Health Anxiety
  • "What if..." thoughts that go round and round in your mind
  • A tight chest, nausea, dizziness or feeling physically on edge
  • Social Anxiety
  • Panic attacks or a fear that something bad is about to happen
  • Difficulty falling asleep or waking with your mind already racing
  • Feeling irritable, overwhelmed or unable to relax
  • Avoiding certain places, situations or social events
  • Feeling responsible for everyone else and finding it difficult to say no
  • Replaying conversations and worrying about what you said or did
  • Difficulty concentrating or feeling mentally exhausted
  • Feeling disconnected from yourself or the world around you

You don't need to experience every one of these signs for anxiety to be affecting your life. If you've recognised yourself in some of what you've read, it may be a sign that anxiety has become more than just occasional worry.

Together, we can make sense of what's happening and explore why anxiety has become such a dominant part of your life.

How I Work With Anxiety

Living with anxiety can be exhausting. It can leave you feeling as though your mind never switches off, your body is constantly on alert and even the smallest decisions become overwhelming.

Our sessions aren't about telling you to "just think differently" or offering quick fixes. They're about helping you understand why anxiety feels so overwhelming in the first place.

Together, we'll make sense of what's happening, exploring the thoughts, emotions and experiences that may be contributing to your anxiety and gently untangling the patterns that have been keeping you stuck.

We'll work at a pace that feels right for you. You don't need to have the right words or feel under pressure to talk about anything before you're ready. Whether your anxiety is linked to bereavement, another significant life event or something that's developed over time, we'll explore it together, helping you understand not only what you're feeling, but why.

As that understanding grows, anxiety often begins to feel less frightening and more manageable. Along the way, I'll share practical strategies where they're helpful, so you can begin to feel more in control and less consumed by the worries that have been taking up so much of your energy.

How Anxiety Counselling Can Help

Everyone's experience of anxiety is different, so what you gain from counselling will be unique to you. As we work together, you may begin to notice some of the following changes:

  • A better understanding of why anxiety affects you in the way it does
  • Feeling less overwhelmed by your thoughts and emotions
  • Greater confidence in responding to worry rather than being controlled by it
  • Fewer cycles of overthinking and self criticism
  • Finding it easier to set healthy boundaries and say no when you need to
  • Feeling calmer and more in control, even when life feels challenging
  • Improved sleep and a greater sense of emotional wellbeing
  • More confidence in everyday situations that once felt overwhelming
  • Beginning to enjoy life without anxiety taking up quite so much space

Counselling isn't about making anxiety disappear overnight. It's about helping you understand it, respond to it differently and gradually regain confidence in yourself and your ability to cope.
